The Shefford Baptist Church New Building
Below is the press release sent out regarding the proposals for the new church
building:
"Our desire is to be like Jesus and help everyone to meet Him"
Shefford Baptist Church has launched a mammoth fund raising effort to enable remodelling of the buildings.
First built in the 1820’s and modified several times since, the existing building has now begun to deteriorate to such an extent that the fellowship believe that spending any more large sums of money would be bad stewardship of funds.
The church has a vision of reaching out to the community more, and being a ‘resource for all’ in our growing town. There are already several groups using the premises that have no connection with the church at all.
Many church based activities are also held including a very sizeable club for young people on Friday evenings, a Credit Union and groups for mothers and toddlers.
Sadly though, there are limitations as to what can be done because of the layout of the rooms and lack of disabled access to the upper floor.
Architects have been commissioned, plans drawn and initial options decided upon. We have agreed that the project can be phased, and aim to make a start in April 2010. We need to raise at least £270.000 for the project to begin - The ultimate target figure is £600,000 and it seems that this is an enormous sum of money especially when it is such a small fellowship.
Planning permission is yet to be sought, and our neighbours need to be consulted. There are many hurdles to overcome, and we realise that, and it may seem an almost impossible task. Although we have not jumped into this venture blindly. As a fellowship we have prayed and sought God’s will, and we are convinced that this is the way that we should move. We believe that if God is behind the project He will not allow it to fail.
So please look out for our events, any help and support would be most welcome, come and see the plans if you wish. We will have a display at Shefford Gala on 7th June or come to an exhibition of our proposals on 11 June between 4 and 9 pm. This will have further elevation drawings and a model to be explored.
